The Elgin watch serial number decoder
Find the manufacture date of an Elgin watch
This lookup tool will decode the Elgin MOVEMENT serial number to an approximate date of manufacture for a vintage Elgin watch or pocket watch. You need to open the watch and get the serial number off the movement itself, this tool does not decode case serial numbers. Elgin serial numbers are at least 5 characters long and may start with a letter, please include the initial letter if you have one. The 3 digit number is not the serial number but the Elgin movement number which this tool cannot decode. Elgin stopped using serial numbers on their watches in 1955.
This date is approximate and should be thought of as the first possible date that it may have been made, it seems movements may have been made in large batches and not actually completed as a full watch until months later.
